In December 8, 2000, the Corazon Centre was established as a ministry of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Our name, Corazon, is a Spanish word meaning “Heart”, which reflects our core values of kindness and compassion. Initially, the Centre was established to provide short-term respite services to women and their dependent children who were in need of respite. Home ‘detox’ services were also provided to women who were unable to undergo formal detox programs because of their caregiving responsibilities.
In 2006, the service was expanded to include the provision of psychology and counselling. This was in response to the lack of affordable mental health services for people living in the City of Wyndham. At the time the demand for this service was growing the respite component declined due to funding cuts. Today, the psychology and counselling service remains the focus of the organisation.
